Hi Students, Today we wanted to share with you a mindfulness video that focused on belly breathing. This is a great way to increase deep breathing and increase the amount of oxygen that we get to our body. Belly breathing can help promote a sense of calm and relaxation in our bodies. Try this before an exam or something that has been causing you stress. Let us know if you like it! Note: Although this say "for expecting mothers" - it is great for all populations.

Hi students, Happy Friday! I wanted to share this with you all for the weekend incase you were looking for a way to stay physically active in your home! With the pandemic keeping us home and away from physical activity and sports, it is still important that we keep active to stay healthy. This is not only for our physical health, but for our mental health as well. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that those who are six to 17 years old engage in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily. The Body Project is an account on YouTube that has posted many at home body weight workouts since the pandemic hit. I have attached a link to one of the videos they made below. Give it a try and let me know what you think! Hi students and parents,
I just wanted to share this information that was shared with me through our nursing department. Drive through COVID locations are present in Milwaukee without an appointment. See below! Hey students,
Today I wanted to share an idea with you that you can try at home to swap out an unhealthy snack for a more healthy one. I know flamin' hot chips are a fan favorite of kids of all ages nowadays, but unfortunately they lack little nutritional value. For example, every 21 pieces of Hot Cheetos contain 170 calories, 15g of carbohydrates, 11 grams of fat, 250mg of sodium, and little to no nutrients. An alternative that can be made is Cajun spice popcorn! This snack not only provides you with something spicy, but per 3.5 cups it has 120 calories, 21 gram of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fat and 3.6 grams of fiber. It also contains a great source of antioxidants which help aid in blood flow and digestive health. If you are interested in making some, I have attached the recipe below. https://www.yellowblissroad.com/cajun-seasoned-popcorn-diy-cajun-seasoning/#wprm-recipe-container-23920 Note: You can make it really simple if you just want to use a microwavable bag of popcorn and cajun spice, but air popping or stove popping is the way to get the most health benefit. If you opt for the microwavable route, try and find one with little to no butter added in to it! Hi students, The Golda Health and Wellness committee has been working hard over the last month to help provide you with more education related to exercise, nutrition, and, mindfulness. This week you will see an activity in your announcements from us related to mindfulness. I hope you take some time to participate in the activity. I have also attached it below here for you to view. Stay well and stay kind. From your ACP slides: Today we wanted to share a mindfulness meditation video for you to do today during your advisory or after school in your own time. Taking time to focus on some mindfulness can positively impact •Stress levels •Focus •Mood •Sleep patterns Meditation is one of many mindfulness techniques that are available to you. Next week we will focus on a different method. If interested in this video today check out the link below! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYQy8-7Ut1E For the lower campus I have attached and alternate activity (see top), but feel free to do the one above as well! Hi students and families,
I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy during this time. I wanted take time today to address the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin. Since September 23rd we have more than doubled the daily reported cases of COVID-19. Why do I bring this up in todays post? I bring this up because it is important that we understand just because we are tired of not living our normal lives, tired of wearing masks, tired of socially distancing ourselves from other, just because we are tired does not mean that it is going to just vanish. We need to take the precautions to protect each other and get this pandemic under control. Wear your masks, wash your hands, socially distance yourselves in public, and do what the experts are telling us to do. We are trending in the wrong direction at the moment and it is up to us as members of society to help it trend the right way. I have given a presentation to all of your teachers if you are interested in learning more. Please continue to take care of yourselves and others. I hope to see you soon. Hi students!
I apologize I did not get a chance to post the mindfulness activity yesterday. Today I would like you guys, if possible, to get out of your house and take a walk around your block, yard, or if needed it can be in your house. While doing this I want you to take some time and every 30 seconds or so, stop, take some deep breaths, and identify what you can with your senses. What do you see? Smell? Hear? Feel? You will likely notice that there are things in your community, yard, even your house that you have never noticed before. Take some time today to disengage from the stress that day to day school may be causing and engage into nature. Take as much time as you need to. Do this as needed through the next week or month. Mindfulness is a valuable tool that is not difficult to engage in. Keep up the great work guys. I hope to see you all soon! Welcome to a new week students and parents!
I hope your weekend was great and are refreshed for a new week. As always, to start the week I want to share a small mindfulness activity with you that can be done in as little as two minutes. If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or feel as if your thoughts are spiraling all over the place, then this activity may be beneficial for you. This is known as the I spy activity. It is simply taking a minute to remove yourself from a stressful situation and identifying things around you to help ground yourself into the "now" of the moment you are in. To do this all you have to do is take a seat and take a few deep breaths. From there, identify three things you can see, two things you can hear, and lastly, one sensation you can feel. By doing this you are increasing your awareness to your body and environment and can help you lessen your anxiety and gain control over more positive thoughts. I hope this activity is of some benefit to you all. If you give it a try let me know what you think in the comments. Keep up the great work! Happy Wednesday students!
I hope the week has been fantastic so far. Today I wanted to focus on nutrition in this time of COVID-19. Particularly what, if there is anything, we should eat to help us stay healthy and our immune system strong. Currently there is no strong evidence that any food or nutrient can help fight or prevent COVID-19, but there are several nutrients that play a large role in our immune functioning. These include copper, folate, iron, selenium, zinc, and other vitamins which are found largely in a diet that is rich with fruits and vegetables. Keeping our immune system strong is crucial during times like these. Below is a list of foods that contains these nutrients in them.
This of course, is just a small list of what food contains what. There is a good chance you are already eating these foods and that is great. As always, check out Healthyplate.gov for some great information on portion sizes and more information on what foods you could add to your day to day diet! Hello students, Welcome back to the start of the week! I hope you took some time this weekend to take time away from doing school work and took the time to do the things that make you happy. Remember, selfcare is important, especially in the times we are living in now. I'm going to keep this short, so below is a video with Adrienne and Benji. It is a twenty minute yoga flow to help you relax and take time for yourself. Let me know what you think. Have a great week! |
